Back Pain

Why do I have lower back pain?

Whether your lower back pain is caused by a recent event or it’s something you’ve lived with for years, you certainly don’t have to live with it in the future. Dr. Stayberg gets to the root of your lower back pain and provides the treatment you need to correct it. Usually, lower back pain is caused by:

  • Sprains or strains
  • Herniated discs
  • Sciatica
  • Disc degeneration
  • Trauma
  • Spinal stenosis

Overuse injuries and trauma are the most common causes of lower back pain, but other conditions can develop over time or cause flare-ups when aggravated. If your lower back pain doesn’t resolve within two to three days, it’s best to see Dr. Stayberg for a consultation to rule out an injury or other more complicated condition.

Can I exercise if I have lower back pain?

Yes, and you should! But take it easy; not just any exercise will do. Once Dr. Stayberg determines the root cause of your lower back pain, he teaches you stretches and exercises to improve your mobility and strength while also protecting your lower back. These specialized movements help improve posture, balance, and coordination, minimizing your lower back pain.

Before sending you off to do the exercises on your own though, Dr. Stayberg ensures that your technique is correct and lets you know exactly how many repetitions you need to do during each session.

How do chiropractic adjustments help lower back pain?

Oftentimes when you have lower back pain, something is misaligned in your body. If Dr. Stayberg recommends a chiropractic adjustment to reduce your discomfort, he gently manipulates the joints of your spine using quick, precise movements. If you’re in too much pain to move into the desired positions, he uses a specialized instrument to aid your adjustment.

Most patients also receive heat or ice packs, cold laser therapy, or ultrasound therapy before or after their adjustments. Often, patients report experiencing less lower back pain by the time their session is over.
